![]() When he forbids them to be anxious, this is not to be taken literally, as if he intended to take away from his people all care. Throughout the whole of this discourse, Christ reproves that excessive anxiety, with which men torment themselves, about food and clothing, and, at the same time, applies a remedy for curing this disease. And if God thus clothes the grass, which is today in the field, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more shall he clothe you, O you of little faith? And I say to you, Even Solomon in all his glory was not clothed like one of these. Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil or spin. If therefore you cannot do even that which is least, why are ye anxious about the rest? 27. And which of you, by anxious care, can add to your stature on cubit? 26. Consider the ravens, for they neither sow nor reap, which neither have granary nor barn, and God feedeth them: how much more are ye better than the fowls? 25.
